What spending controls are available for cards?

Request Finance cards include built-in spending controls so you can manage how much a card can spend and reduce risk if a card is lost, misused, or shared with a team member.

When creating or editing a card, you can define custom spending limits that restrict how much the card can be used over different time periods.

Available spending limits

You can set spending limits for three different timeframes:

  • Daily limit: The maximum amount the card can spend within a single day

  • Monthly limit: The maximum amount the card can spend within a calendar month

  • Yearly limit: The maximum amount the card can spend within a calendar year

Transactions that would cause the card to exceed any of these limits will be declined.

How spending limits work

When a payment is attempted:

  1. The transaction amount must be below the per-transaction limit ($50,000).

  2. The transaction must not cause the card to exceed its daily, monthly, or yearly spending limits.

  3. If any limit would be exceeded, the transaction is automatically declined.

Limits reset automatically based on their timeframe (daily, monthly, yearly).

Maximum default limits

Cards are subject to the following default limits:

  • Maximum transaction amount: $50,000 per transaction

  • Maximum monthly spending: $150,000 per card

Even if your daily or yearly limits are higher, transactions must still respect these default limits.
